Our Institute is a small cog in the wheel of the Derbyshire Federation and part of the Rothervale Group. Beighton W.I. was formed in 1948.

The Year 2000 seemed to pass very quickly and without a 'note' on the Internet from Beighton W.I. although the Institute (and its members) have been quite active.

During the village Fun Week in July 2000, we entered a float depicting British Women through the ages and, manned stalls at the gala. Our main contribution to the week was a 'Craft Exhibition' where members' exhibits were very much admired by visitors.

We enjoyed outings to Tatton Park and Bridgemere Gardens. Although the weather during the year 2000 was rather inclement we enjoyed the outings. Two of our members were fortunate to be in attendance at the 'famous' Wembley meeting in June when an unexpected guest appeared. Quite an experience, but an enjoyable day.

Members completed eight kneelers for the Methodist Church that we made to commemorate our 50th Birthday. We hold our meetings in the Methodist Hall and we did produce a small booklet of members recipes, poems etc to commemorate the Millennium.

We ended the year with a new President, Mary Kempton as Nancy Bailey stood down after seven years, and a new Secretary, Pamela Senior replaces Pamela Williams. We are all set and raring to go with list of interesting speakers for 2001 and hopefully, some interesting events in which to participate. Our membership has increased by two
